Larry,
I'm following you since some time, but I have to thank Judy Derby for mentioning you in "Did I Just Clap and Comment On Your Article?", and it took me to this excellent "thesis" of yours.
Like many who have commented, I would also lighten every paragraph.
But I cite a few that touched me at my age the most:
"By the time we hit 60, we're nearing the final leg of the marathon that is our life".
Well... I, who in a few days will be 88, do not think (at least today) that I am on the final stretch of my existence; my project is to die at 132, riding a bike, run over by a popcorn cart.
I commented on this in my post "The passage is narrowing".
"Subtly mention you have a bad back".
If I say this to my wife who asks me to move a heavy vase, she will say unpublished things to me; if she don't punch me in the back to check...
"When on an outing take note of where the bathrooms are".
There is! This is truly necessary! I have benign prostatic hyperplasia, (BPH), and 4 milligrams of Doxasozine Mesylate per day solves the physical problem very well; but... I have psychological urinary urgency...
"gray hair isn't your biggest problem".
Oh how I wish I had beautiful white hair!
I went bald at 45, completely bald with small lumps in my temples at 60.
"If you can't change reality, change your attitude".
I didn't even have to change my attitude; here in Brazil there is even a carnival song whose title is "It's the bald ones that women like best"; some would say it's because they think bald people are rich; but I think it's much more for the security they infuse..
""Never trust a fart.".
Perfect! More than that, be careful not to fart near others! I take 40 drops of Simethicone 3 times a day; still, every now and then, and if I don't check myself, one escapes, and it's terrible: I had to have an operation 12 years ago, and I have 70 centimetres less of my colon.
"age brings wisdom,".
If the person does not went gaga before the time, if paid attention to what he was living, to what he saw, heard and read, yes, age will bring wisdom. But also naivety; the customs and meaning of words, new words, of slang, lead her to believe in bullshit, fakes, scams.
I'm getting more and more naive; my grandchildren laugh at me.
Excellent text!
Congratulations and thanks for posting.
